Removing the battery tray

What appears as battery acid has badly corroded the battery tray and everything surrounding it. Many people have got good results using Por-15 on such pieces. To do the job properly the battery tray has to be removed from the car.

From the engine bay it seems as if the tray is being held down using a set of carriage bolts. But from the passenger footwell there is no clear indication as to how the bolts are to be removed

Thanks to the guys on the Jag-Lovers forum, I discovered that the battery tray is held in the same arrangement as the pedal box I removed a few weeks back. Except in this case, there are only 4 bolts. The metal tabs are inserted over the battery tray bolts and thus make it easy to locate each nut. Its a definitely back-braking job for sure though.
